Copper alloy Iron Age potin
Description
Copper alloy Iron Age potin. Potins were the first coins made in Britain by the Cantiaci, the major Celtic tribal group in the Southeast of England during the Late Iron Age period. The designs often featured animals, patterns and local deities or leaders. Potins were cast in strips and then cut into separate coins. They often still bear the cut edges from the runlets that joined them together.
